Integrated Nutritional Care for Cancer Patients

Recognizing the importance of nutrition in the integrated management of complex medical problems, The Oncology Service is please to offer the services of Dr. Heidi Allen. Dr. Allen is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and is currently in the process of completing her training to become a board-certified Nutritionist.

Supportive Care From the Inside.

One way to maintain a good quality of life for pets undergoing cancer treatment is to provide a variety of supportive care options. A customized nutrition plan can serve to support treatment as well as bolster energy, stimulate appetite, and the immune system.

Dr. Allen works closely with pet owners, primary care veterinarians and The Oncology Service specialists to develop individualized nutrition care plans for patients with a range of nutritional needs, from those with reduced appetites to others with more serious medical problems associated with cancer or other concurrent conditions.

We offer several nutrition consultation options including a complete medical record review and telephone discussions with owners, in-person consultations at our Leesburg, VA, facility, and home-cooked meal preparation programs/menus. All nutritional plans developed are reviewed and approved by a team of board-certified nutritionists working with Dr. Allen through the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.
